Strategic Skincare Layering
Maximize Results Without Overcomplicating Your Routine
I used to layer outfits as a fashion buyer, and I layer skincare the same simple way: by order and purpose. Start with clean skin, then water-based serums like hyaluronic acid, then treatment actives such as vitamin C, AHAs or retinol, followed by niacinamide or peptides, then a moisturizer (emollient), and finish with an occlusive or sunscreen in the morning. Think about pH, absorption and the type of ingredient—humectants, emollients, and occlusives all play different roles. Keep morning and night routines clear and consistent so your barrier stays healthy and actives like acids or retinol work safely. This method boosts absorption, reduces irritation, and helps serums, moisturizers, and sunscreen do their best without a lot of fuss.
